31,759 fans were treated to a fine game at Fenway Park as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end. The Boston Red Sox won by the
slimmest of margins, 7 to 6. Sammy White had two doubles & 2 RBI for the
victors.

In the 5th inning Boston went on top for good scoring 2 runners on 3 hits.
Baltimore had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short.

Ike Delock(5-4) allowed 6 runs in 8 and 1/3 innings, and picked up the
victory. Ellis Kinder earned his 11th save. Erv Palica(2-10) was the losing
pitcher. He got hit hard, allowing 7 hits and 4 walks in 4 and 2/3 innings.

Boston continued their winnings ways improving their record to 43-40. They
are 8-2 in their last ten games. Paul Richards was pretty down after the
loss. 'We've really been sputtering along lately, something like 0-10 in the
last week or two. That won't get it done.'

CLEVELAND AT CHICAGO

Larry Doby slammed a homerun and had 3 RBI and Early Wynn carried a no-hitter
into the 6th inning at Comiskey Park as the Cleveland Indians beat the
Chicago White Sox by the count of 3 to 1.

Wynn(8-3) was virtually untouchable. He allowed only 2 hits and 3 walks in 9
innings. The right-handed Wynn lost his chance for a no-hitter when Jim
Rivera homered with nobody out in the 6th inning. Chicago went down without
a fight in the bottom of the 9th.

The losing pitcher was Connie Johnson(1-1). He gave up 3 runs and 4 hits in 6
innings.

KANSAS CITY AT DETROIT

Frank House cracked 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI and Frank Lary went the distance
at Briggs Stadium as the Detroit Tigers beat the Kansas City Athletics 10 to
2.

House provided much of the offense. He blasted a two-run home run in the 2nd
inning, smashed a solo-shot out of the park (his 10th of the season) in the
4th inning and laced a base-hit scoring a run in the 6th inning. Detroit
banged out 18 on the afternoon.

Lary(5-10) finished the game allowing 2 runs in the victory. Art Ditmar(3-6)
ended up with the loss. He allowed 4 homeruns in 4 innings of work.


NEW YORK AT WASHINGTON

Win:Turley(9-3) Loss:Schmitz(5-6)

"Bullett" Bob Turley came through with a solid 9 innings as the New York Yankees topped
the Washington Nationals by a score of 4 to 0 at Griffith
Stadium.

Turley(9-3) was virtually untouchable. He was stingy on the mound, allowing
just 5 hits and no walks in 9 innings. Neither team managed to score after
the 3rd inning.

Johnny Schmitz(5-6) absorbed the loss. He allowed a few too many baserunners
giving up 12 hits and 2 walks in 8 innings. The winning ways continue for
New York. They now have a record of 8-2 in recent days. With the loss,
Washington has a record of 4-6 lately, 31-48 overall.
