AL Transaction July 14th

The Cleveland Indians traded Bill Wight to Baltimore Orioles in exchange for Hoot Evers. Wight, a 33 year old lefthander, is in his 9th season and now his 6th team. He was 1-0 with a 2.63 ERA in 24 innings for the Tribe this year and did not pitch last year. Baltimore skipper Paul Richards plans to insert Wight into the rotation.

Evers, a 34 year old outfielder, is in his 12th season. He will be playing for his 5th team over the last two seasons. Last year, for three teams, Evers hit .158 with 1 homer and 7 RBI in 76 AB's. This year for the Orioles he was hitting .220 with 7 homers and 16 RBI in 57 games. Indians manager Al Lopez figures to use Evers with Gene Woodling in left field.
