Bob Rush tossed a complete game and Ernie Banks went yard and had 2 RBI as the
Chicago Cubs outscored the New York Giants 6 to 2.

Chicago took the lead for good in the 2nd inning scoring 2 runners on 1 hit.
The highlight belonged to Randy Jackson who silenced Polo Grounds as he
bombed a two-run dinger (his 10th of the season). Chicago had 10 hits for
the night.

Rush(9-8) got the victory, allowing 2 runs for the game. Ruben Gomez(5-4) was
tagged with the loss. He allowed 3 homeruns in 5 innings of work.


CINCINNATI AT PITTSBURGH

The Cincinnati Redlegs toppled the Pittsburgh Pirates by a 5 to 1 score at
Forbes Field.

Pittsburgh fell behind quickly as the Cincinnati offense came through in the
first inning when they tallied 2 runs on 2 hits. The early run support
proved sufficient for Jackie Collum(4-2) and Cincinnati. That was all the
run support Collum required. Both teams finished the game with 8 hits.

Hersh Freeman recorded his 6th save. Max Surkont(4-9) was hit with the loss.
The Cincinnati ballclub's record now stands at 48-33. Pittsburgh has a
record of 27-61, worst in the league after the loss.

MILWAUKEE AT PHILADELPHIA

Eddie Mathews lofted one into the 'cheap seats' and had 3 RBI and Bob Buhl was
able to finish what he started and was credited with a complete game as the
Milwaukee Braves staged a dramatic comeback over the Philadelphia Phillies by
a score of 7 to 5 at Connie Mack Stadium.

Philadelphia was unable to recover after Milwaukee went ahead in the 2nd
inning scoring a single run on 2 hits. Hank Aaron tripled. Bobby Thomson
came to the plate and slapped a one-base hit scoring the run. Milwaukee
rapped out 9 hits for the night.

Buhl(11-3) lasted until the end allowing 5 runs for the win. Herm
Wehmeier(6-5) ended up with the loss. He pitched 8 and 2/3 innings and
surrendered 9 hits and 5 walks.

'I just wanted to give my team a chance to win.' said Buhl, 'I got burned on a
couple of pitches. But we won the game, and that's all that matters.'

ST. LOUIS AT BROOKLYN

The spectacular Brooklyn Dodgers defeated the St. Louis Cardinals by a score
of 4 to 1 at Ebbets Field.

Brooklyn took the lead for keeps in the 2nd inning when they scored 2 runs on
3 hits. The early run support proved sufficient for Johnny Podres(9-2) and
Brooklyn. That was all the run support Podres required. St. Louis proved to
be no trouble in the 9th.

Clem Labine earned the save, his 4th. Larry Jackson(5-9) took the loss. He
was knocked around by Brooklyn, allowing 9 hits and 4 walks in 6 innings.
