Nl Transaction July 15th

The Brooklyn Dodgers sent down last years bullpen hero, 32 year old Jim Hughes. In his 4th year, Hughes was brilliant last year posting a (6-8) record with a 2.95 ERA and a major league best 25 saves. This season it has been a brutal struggle as Hughes has a (2-6) record with a 6.96 ERA and 6 saves. Dodger skipper Walter Alston is hoping Hughes can get it straightened out in Triple A.

The Dodgers also sent down 29 year old outfielder Bob Borkowski. Borkowski was aquired from Cincinnati for Joe Black on June 9th. The 6 year veteran was hitting .171 with 1 RBI in 39 plate appearances. Last season he hit .258 with 12 RBI in 170 plate appearances for the Redlegs.

Brooklyn called up rookie pitchers Don Bessent and Roger Craig to take those two spots on the roster. Bessent, a 24 year old righty, started the season in Brooklyn before being sent down on April 30th. In 9 innings he had no record and a 1.93 ERA.

Craig a 25 year old righty from Durham, North Carolina, will be making his Major League debut in a scheduled start July 17th.
