Billy Pierce delivered 9 solid innings as the sizzling Chicago White Sox defeated the Baltimore Orioles by the score of 7 to 0 at Comiskey Park. Chicago came up with 4 runs in the 3rd inning with the help of 4 hits. That was all Pierce(9-4) needed. Chicago banged out 14 on the afternoon. George Zuverink(1-2) absorbed the loss. He was unable to control the Chicago offense and allowed 12 hits and 3 walks in 6 and 2/3 innings. 'Pierce was the man today,' Marty Marion said. 'He had just about every pitch working.'

Jack Harshman tossed a complete game as the red-hot Chicago White Sox defeatedthe Baltimore Orioles by a score of 7 to 1 at Comiskey Park. In the 3rd inning Chicago scored 6 runs with the help of 8 hits. That scoring would be all that was needed. Chicago totaled 13 on the afternoon. Harshman(7-5), allowing 1 run for the game, picked up the victory. Art Schallock(0-2) ended up with the loss. He gave up 6 runs in 2 and 2/3innings of work. It was another victory for Chicago at Comiskey Park. Now their winning streak stands at 8 games.





BOSTON AT CLEVELAND

Tom Brewer was able to finish what he started and was credited with a complete game at Municipal Stadium where the Boston Red Sox beat the Cleveland Indiansby the score of 10 to 4. Jackie Jensen had a big day against Cleveland. He doubled in the 1st inning, tripled plating two runs in the 8th inning and ripped a solo home run (his 14th of the season) in the 9th inning. Boston totaled 14 on the afternoon. Brewer(9-6) allowed 4 runs on the game. Ray Narleski(5-1) absorbed the loss in relief. He allowed 3 runs and 4 hits in 1/3 of an inning.

Second baseman Billy Goodman had 2 base hits as the Boston Red Sox outscored the Cleveland Indians 3 to 2. Cleveland was unable to claim the lead after Boston went ahead in the top ofthe 5th inning scoring one runner using 2 hits. Cleveland threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short. Bill Henry(3-5) was the winner allowing 2 runs in 8 and 1/3 innings. Henry got relief help from Leo Kiely who gained credit for his 4th save. The loss was charged to Mike Garcia(8-8).

Third baseman Ray Boone jacked one out of the ballyard and had 4 RBI at Briggs Stadium as the Detroit Tigers beat the New York Yankees 10 to 6. Boone helped send the fans home happy. He stroked a single knocking in a run in the 1st inning, rifled a three-run blast (his 11th of the season) in the 3rd inning and laced a base-hit in the 8th inning. The game was a wild affair with the lead changing hands 5 times. The winning pitcher was Al Aber(4-5) who allowed no runs in 3 innings. Tom Morgan(5-3) was the losing pitcher in relief. He surrendered 4 runs and 5 hits in 1/3 of an inning.


WASHINGTON AT KANSAS CITY

The Kansas City Athletics cruised to a 10 to 4 victory over the Washington Nationals at Municipal Stadium. Gus Zernial enjoyed a big day at the plate. He tripled plating a run in the 1st inning, tripled scoring a run in the 7th inning and rifled a three-run blast (his 12th of the season) in the 8th inning. For the game Kansas City out-hit Washington 16 to 10. Vic Raschi(3-3) picked up the victory, allowing 3 runs in 6 innings. Spec Shea(1-3) was given the loss. 'Some days it just all comes together, and this was one of them' Zernial said. 'I've been seeing the ball pretty well lately.'
