NL Transaction July 17th
The Chicago Cubs sent down 28 year old infielder Owen Friend. Friend, in his 4th big league season, was purchased from Boston on June 12th. With the Red Sox he had hit .250 with 7 RBI in 46 plate appearances. For Chicago he was at .222 with 1 RBI in 9 plate appearances. He did not play in the majors in 1954.
