Billy Shantz doubled in the go ahead run and Kansas City hung on for a 4-3 win over New York and a split of the doubleheader.

30,368 fans were treated to a fine game at Municipal Stadium as only one run

separated the combatants at game's end. The Kansas City Athletics won by the

slimmest of margins, 4 to 3.



In the 6th inning Kansas City went on top for good scoring one runner

utilizing 2 base hits. After an out was recorded, Hector Lopez doubled.

After another out, Johnny Kucks came to the plate and unleashed a wild pitch.

Billy Shantz then doubled scoring the run. New York threatened in the 9th

but Kansas City was able to put down the rally.



Arnie Portocarrero(6-2) was the winner allowing 2 runs in 6 innings. Tom

Gorman was credited with his 9th save. Kucks(7-4) suffered the loss.
