Bob Turley allowed only 2 hits resulting in a big goose egg on the scoreboard
for Kansas City and right fielder Joe Collins left the yard as the incredible
New York Yankees defeated the Kansas City Athletics 1 to 0 at Municipal
Stadium.
The game was decided in the top of the 9th inning. Collins cracked a solo
homerun (his 10th of the season). Both teams ended up with 2 on the
afternoon.
It was the 5th shutout of the year for Turley(11-5). Ray Herbert(2-7) was
given the loss. He pitched 9 innings allowing only 2 hits and 4 walks.
'I thought it was my best performance in a long time,' said Turley. 'I had
good command early in the game. I had my control and composure and everything
went well.'
