Irv Noren had 4 hits at Municipal Stadium where the amazing New York Yankees
beat the Kansas City Athletics by the score of 5 to 3.
In the top of the 4th inning New York went on top for good plating an isolated
run using 2 hits. Eddie Robinson doubled. Tom Sturdivant next to the plate
and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. After another out, Noren came to the
plate and slapped a one-base hit scoring the run. Kansas City was out-hit by
New York, 12 hits to 6.
Sturdivant(3-2) allowed 3 runs in 7 innings, and picked up the victory.
Sturdivant got help from Jim Konstanty who was credited with his 9th save.
Vic Raschi(3-4) absorbed the loss. He pitched 5 innings allowing 8 hits and
1 walk.
'He gutted it out' Casey Stengel said of Sturdivant. 'I was very impressed by
his tenacity.'
