Third baseman Ray Boone had 2 base hits and 2 RBI and Ned Garver completed the
game without help from the bullpen at Briggs Stadium as the Detroit Tigers
beat the Washington Nationals 3 to 2.
Garver(10-5) pitched a fine game. He allowed 10 hits and 3 walks in 9
innings. Washington made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to
push the needed runs across.
Mickey McDermott(3-7) ended up with the loss in relief. He surrendered 2 hits
and no walks in 1 inning. 'I was a little good, a little bad and a little
ugly.' said Garver, 'I was just giving us a chance to win.'
