Robin Roberts delivered 9 solid innings as the Philadelphia Phillies won in
dramatic fashion over the St. Louis Cardinals by a score of 3 to 2 at Connie
Mack Stadium.
Philadelphia erupted with the game winning runs in the bottom of the 9th

he slapped a base-hit. Jim Greengrass came next and he slapped a single.
Roy Smalley then drew a walk to load the bases. Roberts came up and he
lashed a single, and an error was also committed, giving Philadelphia the
victory as 14,613 happy fans celebrated wildly. Philadelphia rapped out 7
hits for the afternoon.
Roberts(10-11) was the winner allowing 2 runs for the game. Paul Lapalme(2-3)
was hit with the loss in relief. He gave up 3 hits and 1 walk without
retiring a batter.
