Warren Hacker tossed a shutout as the Chicago Cubs defeated the struggling

Pittsburgh Pirates by the score of 9 to 0 at Forbes Field.

The Pittsburgh fans didn't appreciate the big day Hank Sauer had. He tripled

bringing in a run in the 2nd inning and popped a two-run clout over the fence

(his 8th of the season) in the 5th inning. Chicago had a total of 9 hits for

the game.

Hacker(6-7) was credited with the shutout. Bob Friend(6-8) suffered the loss.

He was knocked around by Chicago, allowing 7 hits and 3 walks in 4 and 1/3

innings.
