Whitey Ford went the distance as the New York Yankees defeated the pathetic

Kansas City Athletics by the score of 7 to 3 at Municipal Stadium.



New York came up with 3 runs in the top of the 5th inning. After two were out

Mickey Mantle began the New York spurt when he drew a walk. Yogi Berra was

next and he drew a walk. Bill Skowron then stroked a base-hit knocking in a

run. Elston Howard stepped in and he laced a base-knock scoring another run.

Gil McDougald stepped into the box and drew a walk to load the bases. Art

Ditmar then threw one that got by the catcher for a passed ball scoring the

final run of the inning. New York finished with 10 hits in the victory.



The victory went to Ford(11-5) who went the distance allowing 3 runs.

Ditmar(4-8) was the losing pitcher. He surrendered 6 runs and 8 hits in 6

and 2/3 innings.
