AL Transaction July 30th

The New York Yankees traded Eddie Lopat to the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for JimMcDonald.


Lopat, the 35 year old southpaw, is in his 12th big league season, the last 8 with the Yankees. After getting off to a good start Eddie had some arm problems that limited his appearances. He relayed shock to the press saying that his arm was fine now. In 12 starts he was 5-5 with a 2.70 ERA and 4 complete games. Last year he was 11-9 with a 2.76 ERA in 23 starts with 7 complete games.









McDonald will be returning to the Yankees after being traded to Baltimore in the off season. The 28 year old righthander is in his 6th season. Last year with New York he was 5-4 with a 3.61 ERA in 10 starts with 2 complete games. This season Mcdonald was 1-6 with a 4.18 ERA in 52 innings pitched. The Yankees have sent him to triple A to get his mechanics straightened out.









The Yankees recalled 25 year old righthander Don Larsen to take Lopats spot in the rotation. Larsen was sent down May 11th after being aquired from Baltimore in the off season. The 3rd year veteran was 1-1 with a 5.73 ERA in 2 starts up to that point. With Baltimore last year Larsen was 6-19 with a 4.44 ERA in 28 starts with 8 complete games.
