Bob Friend carried a no-hitter into the 6th inning as the Pittsburgh Pirates
defeated the Cincinnati Redlegs by the score of 3 to 1 at Crosley
Field.
Friend(7-8) put on a good performance. He allowed just 5 hits and 5 walks in
9 innings. The right-handed Friend had his no-hit bid broken up by Ted
Kluszewski who homered with two outs in the 6th inning. Pittsburgh had a
total of 10 hits for the game.
Jackie Collum(5-3) was given the loss. He was unable to control the
Pittsburgh offense and allowed 10 hits and 3 walks in 7 and 1/3 innings.
