WEB GEMS- Top 8th: Yogi Berra blocked the plate, saving a run!

Walt Dropo slammed a homerun and had 2 RBI at Yankee Stadium as the Chicago

White Sox beat the New York Yankees in 11 innings 4 to 2.

The score was knotted at 2 after nine innings. Chicago came out on top in the

11th inning. After an out was recorded, Gil Coan began the Chicago spurt

when he lashed a single. Coan got a great jump and stole second easily.

After another out, Bob Kennedy came to the plate and popped a two-run clout

over the fence (his 2nd of the season). The New York bats were silent in the

bottom of the 11th.

The victory was credited to Morrie Martin(2-0) who went 3 innings, allowing no

runs. Martin got relief help from Sandy Consuegra who gained credit for his

5th save. Jim Konstanty(5-3) was given the loss in relief.
