WEB GEMS- Bot 3rd: Dick Groat robbed Joe Nuxhall of a base hit.

Dick Hall cracked a homer and had 4 RBI at Crosley Field as the Pittsburgh

Pirates pulled off a dramatic comeback beating the Cincinnati Redlegs by the

count of 9 to 8.

Hall was a seemingly constant irritant to the hometown fans as he provided

much of the offense for the visitors. He belted a three-run homer (his 1st

of the season) in the 3rd inning and doubled bringing in a run in the 6th

inning. Cincinnati scored in 5 different innings, but their shaky pitching

kept them from victory.

Vern Law(8-10) went 7 and 2/3 innings allowing 6 runs for the victory. Max

Surkont was credited with his 1st save. The loss was charged to Joe

Nuxhall(11-9). He got hit hard, allowing 14 hits and 2 walks in 5 and 1/3

innings.

Pittsburgh now has a record of 34-69. With the loss, the Cincinnati

ballclub's record is 58-41.
