First baseman Earl Torgeson had 2 base hits and 4 RBI and Frank Lary completed

the game without help from the bullpen at Memorial Stadium as the Detroit

Tigers beat the reeling Baltimore Orioles 6 to 2.

Detroit took the lead for good in the top of the 4th inning when they tallied

2 runs on 3 hits. The key offensive moment was provided by Torgeson who

quieted the crowd when he slapped a base-hit bringing in two baserunners.

Both teams finished the game with 10 hits.

Lary(9-11) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 2 runs. The loss was

charged to Art Schallock(0-3). He was knocked around pretty good, giving up

6 runs in 5 innings.

Detroit won for the 6th straight time. Bucky Harris held court after the

contest, 'Everything is coming up aces right now. It is important for our

team to ride this wave as long as we can. Every win is important.'
