The Cincinnati Redlegs defeated the Brooklyn Dodgers by a score of 9 to 6 at
Crosley Field.
Cincinnati scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 4th inning when they had 4 base
hits. The crucial at-bat was provided by Ted Kluszewski who brought the
crowd to their feet when he belted a three-run homer (his 31st of the
season). A wild affair, this game saw the lead change 5 times.
Gerry Staley(7-8) allowed no runs in 2 and 1/3 innings, and picked up the
victory. Staley was helped out by Hersh Freeman who recorded his 8th save.
Don Bessent(4-1) was tagged with the loss in relief. He allowed 1 run and 4
hits in 3 and 1/3 innings.
