7,618 fans watched an exciting game at Memorial Stadium. The Detroit Tigers

topped the Baltimore Orioles by the slimmest of margins, 6 to 5.



Ned Garver(11-5) had a steady outing. He allowed 8 hits and no walks in 6 and

1/3 innings. Baltimore made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to

push the needed runs across.



Joe Coleman was credited with his 1st save. Jim Wilson(8-9) was the losing

pitcher. He was unable to control the Detroit offense and allowed 7 hits and

3 walks in 4 innings.
