With the hometown crowd on the edge of their seats, Washington Nationals came
from behind to top Detroit Tigers, 5 to 4.
Washington had the game winning rally in the bottom of the 9th inning with 3
runs on 4 hits. Roy Sievers kicked off the action when he lined a base-hit.
Two outs later Jerry Schoonmaker stepped up to the plate and he delivered a
single. Jose Valdivielso then stroked a one-base hit bringing in a run.
Harmon Killebrew was up next and he drew a walk to load the bases. Eddie
Yost stepped into the box and doubled making Washington the victors to the
delight of the home town faithful. Washington managed 9 in their victory.
Chuck Stobbs(6-9) got credit for the victory, pitching 1 inning and allowing 1
run. Frank Lary(9-12) absorbed the loss. 'That was exciting!,' Yost said.
'I would have paid money to watch this one.'
