Ernie Banks launched 2 homeruns and had 6 RBI and Bill Tremel pitched 3 strong
innings as the Chicago Cubs ballclub embarrassed the hopeless Pittsburgh
Pirates by the count of 11 to 1.
Banks enjoyed a big day at the plate. He belted a three-run homer in the 1st
inning and smashed a two-run homer (his 30th of the season) in the 8th
inning. Tremel, after tossing a perfect ninth, was credited with his 1st
save.
Howie Pollet(5-2) got credit for the victory, pitching 6 innings and allowing
1 run. Lino Donoso(1-5) was given the loss. He was knocked around pretty
good, giving up 6 runs in 3 innings.
