The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Chicago Cubs by a score of 6 to 3 at
Wrigley Field.
Roy Face(6-5) pitched a solid game. He allowed 12 hits and 1 walk in 8 and
2/3 innings. Face chalked up 9 strikeouts. Chicago threatened in the 9th
but Pittsburgh was able to put down the rally.
Face got help from Max Surkont who was credited with his 2nd save. Jim
Davis(5-3) was charged with the loss. He was touched for 8 hits and 2 walks
in 4 and 1/3 innings.
'We didn't get the key hits when we needed them' Stan Hack said. 'We did what
we could, we just didn't pull out the win. What can you say?'
