WEB GEMS- Top 9th: Mickey Mantle robbed Bill Wilson of an extra base hit.
Second baseman Gil McDougald connected with a 'big fly' and had 3 RBI and Don
Larsen delivered 9 solid innings at Yankee Stadium as the spectacular New
York Yankees beat the pitiful Kansas City Athletics 8 to 1.
New York jumped on top to stay in the 5th inning when they scored 2 runs on 2
hits. The highlight belonged to McDougald who made the New York fans a happy
lot when he lifted one out of the park for a two run home run (his 7th of the
season). New York banged out 7 on the afternoon.
The victory was credited to Larsen(2-1) who went the distance, allowing 1 run.
Cloyd Boyer(6-4) was given the loss. His biggest problem was control as he
allowed 11 walks in 5 and 1/3 innings.
