NL Transaction August 1st
The St Louis Cardinals placed relief pitcher Frank Smith on the DL today with a season ending arm injury. The 27 year old righthander was 3rd in the NL in saves last year with 17 for Cincinnati. He was 6-7 with a 3.20 ERA in 82 IP. Smith spent his first 5 seasons with the Redlegs before the Cardinals aquired him in the off season to shore up their bullpen. This year he was 1-1 with a 1.62 ERA in 39 innings before the injury.
