Smoky Burgess hit a homerun and had 3 RBI as the Cincinnati Redlegs beat the
Pittsburgh Pirates in 13 innings by a score of 3 to 1.
The score was tied at 1 after nine. Cincinnati won it in the 13th inning.
Joe Brovia started the inning off right when he singled. Max Surkont then
let loose a wild pitch. After an out was recorded, Burgess came to the plate
and smashed a two-run homer (his 16th of the season) making Cincinnati the
winners and sending the 24,587 fans home happy. Pittsburgh was out-hit by
Cincinnati, 10 hits to 6.
Rudy Minarcin(5-5) went 4 innings allowing no runs for the victory. The losing
pitcher was Surkont(4-10) in relief. He pitched 3 and 1/3 innings giving up
