Granny Hamner had 2 base hits at Sportsmans Park where the Philadelphia

Phillies beat the St. Louis Cardinals 5 to 2.



Philadelphia drew first blood jumping out to an early lead in the first inning

scoring one runner. Philadelphia had only 5 hits for the game.



Curt Simmons(3-10) allowed 1 run in 7 and 2/3 innings, and picked up the

victory. Jack Meyer earned his 6th save. Luis Arroyo(7-8) was tagged with

the loss. His ERA ballooned from 4.53 to 4.81 as he allowed 5 runs in 2 and

2/3 innings.



The Philadelphia ballclub's record now stands at 49-64. With this loss, St.

Louis has a 3-7 record of late, 44-61 overall.
