At Griffith Stadium, the Washington faithful were treated to an intriguing
pitcher's duel. Johnny Schmitz(8-7) finally bested his Cleveland
counterpart, Early Wynn(10-6), by the score of 2 to 1.
Washington took the lead for keeps in the bottom of the 7th inning plating an
isolated run using 2 hits. The game was a scoreless duel until the 7th
inning.
Schmitz was helped out by Pedro Ramos who recorded his 5th save. Wynn ended up
with the loss. He surrendered 1 run and 7 hits in 7 innings.
