WEB GEMS- Top 3rd: Sammy White blocked the plate, saving a run!

Ted Williams cracked 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI as the Boston Red Sox defeated

the Kansas City Athletics by a score of 10 to 9 at Fenway Park.

Williams had a good evening at the plate. He smacked a single in the 1st

inning, blasted a two-run home run in the 3rd inning and cracked a two-run

shot (his 18th of the season) in the 6th inning. Kansas City threatened in

the 9th but their rally came up short.

The victory was credited to Frank Sullivan(12-8) who went 6 and 2/3 innings,

allowing 6 runs. Ellis Kinder recorded the save, his 13th. The losing

pitcher was Vic Raschi(3-6).

Lou Boudreau was in a contemplative mood after the tough loss, 'It is really

hard to lose this kind of a game. It may seem weird to some, but it is

easier to take the occasional blow-out loss. It is the ones that just barely

get away that hurt so much - like this one!'
