Bob Lemon was able to finish what he started and was credited with a complete
game at Municipal Stadium where the Cleveland Indians beat the reeling Kansas
City Athletics 8 to 2.
Al Smith provided much of the offense. He lofted a three-run bomb (his 15th
of the season) in the 4th inning, doubled in the 6th inning and delivered a
base-hit scoring two baserunners in the 8th inning. Cleveland won despite
being out-hit by Kansas City 12 hits to 8.
The victory was credited to Lemon(10-9) who went the distance, allowing 2
runs. Arnie Portocarrero(6-3) was the losing pitcher.
The Cleveland ballclub's record now stands at 65-48. Not able to get much
going in recent weeks, Kansas City is 1-9 of late and now has an overall
record of 38-76.
