Art Fowler came through with a solid 9 innings at Sportsmans Park as the
Cincinnati Redlegs beat the St. Louis Cardinals by the count of 5 to 0.
St. Louis fell behind quickly as the Cincinnati offense came through in the
first inning scoring 2 runs using 2 hits. Johnny Temple led off and he drew
a walk. After an out was recorded, Ted Kluszewski came to the plate and
laced a one-base hit. Wally Post then ripped a base-knock knocking in a run.
Gus Bell followed and he would ground out scoring the final run of the
inning. That early scoring held up. Cincinnati managed 12 in their victory.
It was the 2nd shutout of the year for Fowler(13-3). Tom Poholsky(4-7) was
tagged with the loss. Birdie Tebbetts was very impressed with his pitcher,
Fowler, 'He had unusually good pitch placement this afternoon. It was almost
unfair - but a beautiful game to watch from where I sat'
