Left fielder Irv Noren slammed a homerun and had 2 RBI and Don Larsen
completed the game without help from the bullpen at Yankee Stadium as the
powerful New York Yankees beat the Boston Red Sox by the count of 4 to
3.
New York won the game with a rally in the bottom of the 8th inning scoring 3
runs on 4 hits. Joe Collins led off and keyed the rally when he delivered a
one-base hit. Noren came to the plate and cleared the fences for a two-run
home run (his 7th of the season). Hank Bauer then smashed a bases-empty
'big-fly' (his 17th of the season). Boston could do no damage in the 9th.
Larsen(4-1) allowed 3 runs on the game. Frank Sullivan(12-9) was the loser.
He allowed 3 homeruns in 7 innings of work.
