Earl Torgeson went yard and had 2 RBI at Briggs Stadium as the Detroit Tigers
won in their last at-bat beating the Chicago White Sox by the count of 4 to
3.
The game was decided in the bottom of the 9th inning. Fred Hatfield drew a
walk. Red Wilson stepped up next and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. Harvey
Kuenn then doubled resulting in an exciting win for Detroit and a wild
post-game celebration by the home town fans. Overall Detroit out-hit Chicago
10 to 6.
Babe Birrer(5-2) went 2 innings allowing 2 runs for the win. Sandy
Consuegra(6-4) took the loss in relief. He pitched 2 and 1/3 innings
allowing 4 hits and 1 walk.
