First baseman Preston Ward smashed 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI and Vern Law was

able to finish what he started and was credited with a complete game at Polo

Grounds where the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the New York Giants 10 to 5.

 

Ward was a thorn in the side of the hometown fans as he enjoyed a fine day at

their team's expense.  He lifted one out of the park for a two run home run

in the 8th inning and delivered a solo blast (his 4th of the season) in the

9th inning.  Pittsburgh finished with 14 hits in the victory.  

 

Law(9-12), allowing 5 runs for the game, picked up the victory. Johnny

Antonelli(8-11) was the loser.  He allowed 10 hits and 3 walks in 7 and 1/3

innings.
