Rookie Milt Smith doubled, homered, and drove in 4 runs as the Redlegs hang on for a 5-3 win over the Cubs.

Milt Smith slammed a homerun and had 4 RBI at Wrigley Field as the Cincinnati

Redlegs beat the Chicago Cubs 5 to 3.



Smith had a big day at the plate. He doubled emptying the bases in the 1st

inning and ripped a solo home run (his 2nd of the season) in the 6th inning.

Chicago had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short.



Joe Black(7-1) got credit for the victory, pitching 8 and 1/3 innings and

allowing 3 runs. Hersh Freeman was credited with his 9th save. The loss was

charged to Harry Perkowski(0-6). He was unable to control the Cincinnati

offense and allowed 9 hits and 3 walks in 5 and 2/3 innings.
