Rookie Willard Schmidt pitched a 5 hit shutout striking out 11 as the Cardinals nip the Braves 2-0 ending Milwaukee's 6 game winning streak.

Willard Schmidt mowed down 11 Milwaukee batters as the St. Louis Cardinals

defeated the Milwaukee Braves by the score of 2 to 0 at County

Stadium.



Schmidt(4-1) was on top of his game. He didn't give up much, just 5 hits and

no walks in 9 innings lowering his ERA to 1.74. St. Louis rapped out 7 hits

for the afternoon.



Bob Buhl(13-6) was the loser. He gave up only 7 hits and no walks in 9

innings. 'He was really impressive today,' Buhl said of his counterpart.

'Our guys were just swinging at air.'
