separated the combatants at game's end. The Chicago White Sox won by the
slimmest of margins, 5 to 4.
Chicago won the game with a run in the top of the 9th inning. Jim Rivera hit
a single. George Kell stepped into the batter's box and he reached on an
error. Two outs later Walt Dropo stepped up to the plate and he stroked a
single scoring the run. Dropo took second on the throw. Chicago had 13 hits
overall, while Detroit had 9.
Harry Byrd(13-6) went 2 innings allowing 1 run for the win. The loss was
charged to Ned Garver(12-8). He was touched for 13 hits and 4 walks in 9
innings.
