WEB GEMS- Bot 4th: Hank Bauer robbed Willie Miranda of an extra base hit.
Jim Dyck had 2 base hits and Ray Moore took a no-hitter into the 6th inning as
the Baltimore Orioles outscored the New York Yankees 4 to 3.
Moore(6-13) had a solid outing for Baltimore. He went 6 and 1/3 innings
allowing 3 hits and 6 walks. The right-handed Moore had his no-hit bid
broken up by Hank Bauer who singled with nobody out in the 6th inning. New
York threatened in the 9th but Baltimore was able to put down the rally.
Moore was helped out by George Zuverink who recorded his 2nd save. Rip
Coleman(0-1) suffered the loss. Casey Stengel was clearly disappointed after
the game. 'It was a manager's nightmare out there', he said, 'We should have
had this one.'
