WEB GEMS- Top 4th: Johnny Temple robbed Ernie Banks of a base hit.
Ted Kluszewski jacked one out of the ballyard and had 2 RBI as the Cincinnati
Redlegs won at Crosley Field in dramatic fashion over the Chicago Cubs, the
final score, 8 to 7.
Cincinnati won the game with a run in the bottom of the 9th inning.
Kluszewski drew a walk. Wally Post came to the plate and doubled. Gus Bell
then was walked intentionally to load the bases. Stan Palys was up next and
he stroked a one-base hit resulting in an exciting win for Cincinnati and a
raucous post-game celebration by the home town fans. The game was a wild
affair with the lead changing hands 5 times.
Joe Nuxhall(15-10) was the winner allowing 1 run in 2 innings. Sam
Jones(12-12) suffered the loss in relief. He allowed 1 run and 2 hits
without retiring a batter.
