The Cleveland Indians had very little trouble at Briggs Stadium downing the

Detroit Tigers. The score was 8 to 3.



Detroit was unable to claim the lead after Cleveland went ahead in the 3rd

inning with 3 runs utilizing 3 base hits. After an out was recorded, Bobby

Avila got things rolling when he doubled. One out later, Ferris Fain stepped

in and he reached on an error. Vic Wertz then lofted a three-run 'big-fly'

(his 12th of the season). Overall Cleveland out-hit Detroit 11 to 8.



Bob Lemon(11-9) went 6 innings allowing 3 runs for the win. Don Mossi earned

the save, his 7th. Jim Bunning(2-2) was hit with the loss. He was unable to

control the Cleveland offense and allowed 9 hits and 2 walks in 5 and 1/3

innings.
