Billy Hoeft pitched a 3 hitter at Comiskey Park as the Detroit Tigers beat the

Chicago White Sox 2 to 1.

Detroit came up with 2 runs in the 6th inning. The key offensive moment was

provided by Charlie Maxwell who deflated the spirits of the home town crowd

when he lifted one out of the park for a two run home run (his 4th of the

season). Detroit had only 5 hits for the game.

The win was credited to Hoeft(15-8) who went the whole way allowing 1 run.

Connie Johnson(4-4) was the losing pitcher. The Detroit ballclub's record

now stands at 64-57. With the loss, Chicago has a record of 5-5 lately,

78-40 overall.
