Randy Jackson hit one over the fence as the Chicago Cubs staged a dramatic
comeback over the Milwaukee Braves by a score of 6 to 3 at County
Stadium.
Chicago won the game with a rally in the 9th inning as they scored 4 runs on 5
base hits. Chicago finished with 13 hits while Milwaukee ended up with 9.
The winning pitcher was Bill Tremel(2-1) who allowed no runs in 2 innings.
Howie Pollet gained credit for his 2nd save. The losing pitcher was Lew
Burdette(12-8). He served up 4 homeruns in his 8 innings.
After the game, it took a long while before Charlie Grimm emerged from his
office. In a subdued tone he answered only a couple of questions. He
concluded with, 'Fellows, sorry I'm not in a very talkative mood tonight, as
I think you'll understand. I'm sure you'll find the banter a lot more
light-hearted over in the Chicago locker room.'
