NL Transaction August 20th
Oakland (of the PCL) sold Al Gettel to the St. Louis Cardinals. Gettel, a 7 year veteran, hasn't pitched in the big leagues since the 1951 season. The 37 year old righthander will be immediately put in the bull pen according to skipper Harry Walker.
To make room the Cardinals sent 30 year old righthander Brooks Lawrence to triple A. Lawrence had an outstanding rookie year in 1954, (10-5) with a 3.62 ERA in 18 starts with 10 complete games. This season he has struggled, (4-4) with a 5.36 ERA in 91 innings pitched.
