The Boston Red Sox defeated the Washington Nationals by a score of 6 to 3 at

Griffith Stadium.



Boston had the game winning rally in the 8th inning with 3 runs utilizing 2

base hits. Ted Williams led off and started the rally when he delivered a

one-base hit. Jackie Jensen stepped up to the plate and he drew a walk.

Norm Zauchin then singled resulting in a run. Zauchin took second on the

throw. Sammy White struck out, unable to help the rally. Dean Stone then

was wild with a pitch bringing in another run. Stone then unleashed a wild

pitch scoring the final run of the inning. For the game Boston out-hit

Washington 10 to 6.



Willard Nixon(8-9) picked up the victory, allowing 3 runs in 7 and 2/3

innings. Leo Kiely earned his 5th save. Mickey McDermott(4-8) suffered the

loss in relief. He surrendered 3 runs and 2 hits without retiring a batter.
