Steve Gromek came through with a solid 9 innings at Comiskey Park where the

Detroit Tigers beat the Chicago White Sox in 14 innings by the score of 2 to

1.

The game was deadlocked at 1 after nine full innings. Detroit won it in the

14th inning. After an out was recorded, Al Kaline lashed a single. One out

later, Bucky Harris stepped in and he called for a steal which was

successful. Ray Boone then ripped a base-knock scoring the run. Chicago was

retired without difficulty in the bottom of the 14th.

The win was credited to Ned Garver(13-8) who went 4 innings allowing no runs.

Garver got relief help from Joe Coleman who gained credit for his 3rd save.

Connie Johnson(4-3) suffered the loss in relief.
