Steve Gromek came through with a solid 9 innings at Comiskey Park where the
Detroit Tigers beat the Chicago White Sox in 14 innings by the score of 2 to
1.
The game was deadlocked at 1 after nine full innings. Detroit won it in the
14th inning. After an out was recorded, Al Kaline lashed a single. One out
later, Bucky Harris stepped in and he called for a steal which was
successful. Ray Boone then ripped a base-knock scoring the run. Chicago was
retired without difficulty in the bottom of the 14th.
The win was credited to Ned Garver(13-8) who went 4 innings allowing no runs.
Garver got relief help from Joe Coleman who gained credit for his 3rd save.
Connie Johnson(4-3) suffered the loss in relief.
