It was a great finish at Connie Mack Stadium as the Philadelphia Phillies
pulled off a dramatic comeback beating the woeful St. Louis Cardinals by the
count of 6 to 5.
Philadelphia scored the decisive runs in a big 9th inning scoring 2 runs using
3 hits. After an out was recorded, Stan Lopata got things rolling when he
delivered a one-base hit. Jim Greengrass came to the plate and lashed a
single. Andy Seminick then slapped a base-hit, and an error was also
committed, resulting in a mighty exciting win for Philadelphia and the 24,460
home town fans in attendance. A wild and woolly affair, this game saw the
lead change 5 times.
Jack Meyer(9-8) was the winner allowing 2 runs in 1 inning. Paul Lapalme(3-6)
ended up with the loss in relief. He pitched 1/3 of an inning allowing 3
hits and no walks.
