Billy Goodman's 2 run double was all Boston needed for the 4-1 win over Detroit and the doubleheader split.

The Boston Red Sox defeated the Detroit Tigers by a score of 4 to 1 at Briggs

Stadium.



In the 2nd inning Boston scored 3 runs. After an out was recorded, Jimmy

Piersall started the attack as he drew a walk. Pete Daley next to the plate

and he drew a walk. One out later, Billy Goodman came up and he doubled

scoring two baserunners. Billy Klaus was up next and he laced a one-base hit

scoring the final run of the inning. That was all Ike Delock(9-4) needed.

Boston had 7 hits for the afternoon.



Ellis Kinder recorded the save, his 17th. Babe Birrer(5-4) was tagged with

the loss. He allowed 3 runs and 4 hits in 7 innings.
