In a thriller the Philadelphia Phillies staged a dramatic comeback over the
Milwaukee Braves winning by a score of 5 to 4 at Connie Mack
Stadium.
Philadelphia came up with the deciding runs in the bottom of the 9th inning
scoring 3 runs on 3 hits. After an out was recorded, Jim Greengrass opened
up the rally as he drew a walk. Stan Lopata came next and he lined a
one-base hit. Marv Blaylock then stroked a base-hit knocking in a run.
Richie Ashburn followed and he reached on an error. After another out, Bobby
Morgan stepped in and he banged out a single making Philadelphia the victors
to the delight of the home town faithful. Philadelphia finished with 10 hits
while Milwaukee ended up with 7.
Bob Miller(5-3) was the winner allowing no runs in 2 innings. Lew
Burdette(12-9) was given the loss. 'What a game!,' Miller said afterward.
'When we won it I almost couldn't believe it!'
