Frank "the Yankee Killer" Lary threw a 5 hitter as the Tigers edged the Yankees 3-2.

Frank Lary was able to finish what he started and was credited with a complete
game at Briggs Stadium where the Detroit Tigers beat the New York Yankees 3
to 2.
Detroit came up with 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning. Al Kaline led
off and started the attack as he hit a single. One out later, Ray Boone was
the next batter, but he struck out. Charlie Maxwell then smashed a two-run
homer (his 5th of the season). Detroit and New York each finished the night
with 5 hits.
Lary(12-12) got the victory, allowing 2 runs for the game. Bob Turley(12-11)
took the loss. The Detroit ballclub's record now stands at 65-58. New York
has a record of 77-46 after the loss.
