2,801 fans were treated to a fine game at Forbes Field as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end. The Pittsburgh Pirates won by the
slimmest of margins, 5 to 4.
Cincinnati was unable to claim the lead after Pittsburgh went ahead in the
bottom of the 5th inning plating an isolated run. Cincinnati had a chance in
the 9th but they came up short.
Dick Hall(6-2) got the win allowing 4 runs in 7 and 2/3 innings. Hall got help
from Roy Face who was credited with his 3rd save. Joe Nuxhall(15-11)
suffered the loss.
'Fundamentals, fundamentals, fundamentals' said Birdie Tebbetts after the
game. 'We lost this game today because we didn't follow the instructions
every Little Leaguer hears every day.'
